Common warning signs
- Slipping: the engine revs up but the car doesn’t speed up the way it should.
- A delay or a clunk when you shift into Drive or Reverse.
- Harsh, late or erratic shifts, or the car stuck in one gear.
- Red or brown fluid under the car, usually toward the middle or front.
- A burning smell after driving, especially in traffic.
- A transmission or check engine warning light.
What to do right away
- Drive gently and avoid hard acceleration, towing or long trips until it is checked.
- If the car slips badly, won’t engage a gear or the warning light flashes, stop driving it and call for a tow: McCoy Towing answers 24/7 at (407) 305-0088.
- Note when it happens: cold or hot engine, which gear, at what speed. It helps the diagnosis.
- Don’t just top off fluid and keep going. Low fluid usually means a leak, and the wrong fluid can cause damage.
Why heat matters in Florida
Transmission fluid works hard: it shifts the gears, cools the parts and lubricates them. Hot pavement and stop-and-go traffic make it run hotter, and overheated fluid breaks down faster. That is why a slip that starts on a hot afternoon on I-4 should be taken seriously.
Repair or replace?
Not every shifting problem means a new transmission. Fluid, sensors, solenoids and wiring can cause similar symptoms. At McCoy Enterprises our transmission repair starts with a diagnosis: we read stored codes, check the fluid and look for leaks, then explain your options and give you an estimate before any work. If a warning light came on with other symptoms, our engine diagnostics can check the whole picture.
Want a professional to take a look? Our Orlando shop diagnoses the problem, explains it in plain language and gives you an estimate before any repair.
